SEN. TOM COBURN (R), OKLAHOMA: I want to send a couple of messages to my colleagues in the House.

If you voted no and you vote yes, and you lose your election, and you think any nomination to a federal position isn’t going to be held in the Senate, I’ve got news for you. It’s going to be held.

Number two is, if you get a deal, a parochial deal for you or your district, I’ve already instructed my staff and the staff of seven other senators that we will look at every appropriations bill, at every level, at every instance, and we will outline it by district, and we will associate that with the buying of your vote. So, if you think you can cut a deal now, and it not come out until after the election, I want to tell you that isn’t going to happen. And be prepared to defend selling your vote in the House.

Yeah! I’ve been praying for this kind of approach from the opposition!

  2. kp

It is about time someone stood up to these tactics!

Can’t see the difference between Obama’s way of selling a cushy political job for a vote, and the indicted Illinois governor’s selling Obie’s abandoned seat for his own political gains. One’s as sleazy as the other, no?

That’s a legit comparison that should carry a bit of resonance with the public. Lets get it around the blogosphere.

Gee, does that include the people like Sen. Coburn that have sold out to the health insurance companies?

This message is from a Liberal Republican that understands there difference between a number (5) an an animal (cat). Can you say the same???

  5. Clyde

Can I say the same? Yes. Why do you ask?

Colburn’s point is clear – selling votes in this legislation will be published.

Does that mean that he is squeaky clean? That he must be without sin before he can utter such words as he did?

    Really?

    Laughing.

Have a nice day. Thanks for stopping by.

I asked because I want to make sure that ALL Senators, Representatives, etc. are held to the same standards, regardless of their party. It’s wrong to hold some some people to one set of standards while violating those standards by holding yourself to a different set of standards.

  7. Clyde

OK, KatH. Seems rather purest of you, but I’ll accept it.

If you have specifics on what Colburn did, please share them. If you’d rather me update the post with it rather than put it in a comment, e it to me – Clyde@PatriotRoom.com

I never said Sen. Coburn specifically did or did not do anything inappropriate. I simply asked if ALL people, in hind sight I should have said all polititians, will be held to the same standard Sen. Coburn is promoting. Sen. Coburn’s name was brought into this simply because he initiated the comment.

Twisting words has become too common and it is not benefiting anyone. Accountability and truth have been replaced with too much rumor and nonsence, and very little hard fact. ALL, regardless of political party, should be truthful and held all accountable for their actions. Too often I see people hide behind one lier so they can throw verbal stones at another lier because they are on the other side. That accomplishes nothing.

KatH – you wrote “does that include the people like Sen. Coburn that have sold out to the health insurance companies.” Um, that’s a pretty clear implication that Coburn sold out to the health insurance companies. Certainly a plain reading of it can only come away with that.

I’ve spoken with Coburn several times. He’s a straight shooter.

But I’ll accept that you didn’t mean that interpretation.

I cannot reach Rep. Bart Gordon, my elected member of Congress by telephone.

Bart Gordon’s staff has switched their local office telephone lines off. They just roll right over to a voice mail box, which is full of course.

    James O’Keefe, where are you?

Seriously, I’d like to have hearings on the quid pro quo bribery which takes place in open view now. When does arm-twisting become a criminal act?

JOSEPH…………We found the same problem here that you described ………THEN WE STARTED TO FILL HIS “E” MAIL BOX!!
