UPDATE … well, duh! The guy posts the report below on one website, and CORRECTS it on another! Specifically, the satellites changed orbits and that caused the difference. Still doesn’t address his buoy observations, but – hey – he’s a scientist. he must be right.

Jeez … nevermind! See the comments for the observant reader that sent the correction into us.

Now, back to our regularly featured Warmist Bashing …

An analysis of source data compared to NOAA published data shows an unexplained and unsupported spike in ocean temperatures in 2001, with no correction afterward.

Here’s the assertion:

After crunching data this week from two of our satellite-based microwave sensors, and from NOAA’s official sea surface temperature (SST) product ERSST v3b, I think the evidence is pretty clear: The ERSST v3b product has a spurious warming since 1998 of about 0.2 deg. C, most of which occurred as a jump in 2001.

Here’s the “spurious warming” isolated:

The satellite source data used was compared with bouy data, and a perfect correlation was found. The only difference is what NOAA reported the temperatures to be – that difference isolated in the graph above.

The conclusion:

Finally, the 0.15 to 0.20 deg. C warm bias in the NOAA SST product makes it virtually certain that July 2009 was not, as NOAA reported, a record high for global sea surface temperatures.

What does this mean? It seems that we have “value-added” data being published by NOAA. The Warmists are everywhere.

Here’s the homepage of the study’s author.

Post updated. Gee, you’re no fun! How could the guy let the report still sit on his main website? What’s with correcting it on another site? Gives us Warmist Bashers a bad name!
