“Mr. Cat” just watched the Rush vid and said “anyone who makes fun of Barney Frank is a friend of mine!”
Guys. I just don’t see how bad manners will help the cause in the long run. *sigh*
Bad manners? If you watched that entire speech and did not come away inspired, I just don’t understand you. If you didn’t feel like Rush was largely correct in what he said, I don’t get you. If you don’t feel that was a great message to America, I don’t have a damn thing in common with you.
But rest assured that Karl Marx does.
I have seen many motivational speakers in my sales business. Rush makes them all look like amatures. This was the most inspiring speach I have heard in a long time! I am a libertarian, with conservative leanings, and he makes me very proud to be an American! Thank you Rush!
Rush ruled the day. He was on the mark with that speech. Did anyone see the speech by the 13 years old?
Rush fires up the base like nobody else.
All I’m asking is, is your base large enough? Rush is a deeply polarizing guy, and his kind of rhetoric is not the kind that attracts the independents Republicans need to regain power. If it was, Operation Chaos would have worked, but it failed – badly. Rush simply doesn’t have the power to motivate the country rather than the base any more. Steele and Cantor know this, which is why they’re trying to distance themselves.
Of course, since there isn’t an election coming up, you could argue that motivating the base to get out there is what’s needed. But narratives get set very early, and I don’t think Oxy Rush is the fresh face the Republicans need.
I’ve seen parties having to adjust themselves after stinging defeats. It takes a long time to acknowledge that they need to change some policies in order to regain power. Currently, this is the Denial phase, and Rush is the face of that denial. How long the phase lasts is up to you. But I do want an effective Republican opposition in this country, to keep Democrats from getting lazy. Rush isn’t being effective at getting you votes.
Ultimately, Republicans will need a leader who is prepared to repudiate, explicitly and repeatedly, the worst excesses of the Bush years. A socially libertarian fiscal conservative might be your best bet. Any ideas on who?
I posted this on my blog *Wise Conservatism* too…though I didn’t do it the way you did it, I couldn’t figure out how to get them all in the way you did, I posted a link for the whole thing from Rush Limbaugh’s site. And you are right there….he was on fire and explained so clearly everything he said…..and yet, I today still are hearing how the liberals are continuing to stick with their lies and distortions about how Rush wants Obama to fail and therefore wants America to fail. I have to say to the Libs out there…..it isn’t so darned hard to understand what he said. And what we Conservatives are saying……if you would just open your ears and listen.
