Just completed a conference call with Senator Bond (R-MO). The raw audio runs about 25 minutes. Click below to listen. My notes (unedited!) are below the embedded audio.
Notes (these are quickly typed, should not considered quotes – listen to the source tape for quotes):
Statement: Yesterday’s hearing in the Intelligence Committee shows this Administration cares more about protecting terrorists than protecting the country.
Q: Obama have prior knowledge of Mirandize? Response: Yes, from everything we understand, he was fully aware of it. Q: In advance? R: That’s all we know. The buck stops at his office for terror policy.
Q. Andrew McCarthy said – 80% chance the trials will be military tribunals. Response: DOJ makes the final decision. Civil trials give terrorists soap box. It also gives terrorists much information about our methods to fight terrorism.
Q: Gibbs all but convicted Christmas-Day bomber. Response: Poison’s jury. Speedy trial is also an issue. Pre-trial discovery threatens our country.
Q: GITMO closing? R: Would be surprised and disappointed if Illinois move occurs. Makes us all less safe.
Q: Putting detainees on the street. R: I asked for and was rebuffed on getting recidivism rates, now we hear that it is 20%, and all from releasees of President Bush. President Obama is conducting a jihad to close Guantanamo. Closing is not necessary for safety of our troops – that is the current WH line. If we house and try in Illinois, that will likewise become a problem. GITMO is the place they all belong. Better than the mountainside from which they came.
Q: Administration forthcoming on Ft. Hood incident? Response: Taken a long time to draw it out. We still have lots more to learn about it.
Q: Are they withholding information? R: I tried for a month and a half to get information. They are withholding classified reports.
Q: DNI testified that Ft. Hood terrorist was a homegrown extremist. R: Homegrown terrorists are grown at home when they associate with terrorists abroad. They are all looking for American citizens they can radicalized. Terrorists are terrorists. Terrorists look for American citizens to convert. Americans can become enemy combatants and thereby lose their rights to protections.
Q: Should TIDE list entries have visas suspended? R: There needs to be much tighter link-up in the list. It is very broad. My own pastor somehow got on the no-fly list. We need to be a lot careful in who we let in.
Statement: What was the rush to Mirandize Christmas-Day bomber? It shows over-senstivity to protecting rights the terrorists don’t have.
