Palin Crushes Murkowski 55 to 31 in Alaska Senate Poll
Nothing like a little Sarah Palin news to brighten the day. If Palin were to challenge sitting GOP Senator Lisa Murkowski in a primary contest in 2010, one poll (caveat – it’s Kos’s pollster – but he’s actually pretty good) has ‘Cuda crushing Murkowski, 55 to 31. And in the deep red state of Alaska, these things are over in the primaries.
Allah notes that the conventional wisdom is to forget the Senate seat, stay governor, and run against Barry and The Socialists in 2012. But he says that a Senate gig would give her more experience debating and voting on critical national issues, establish a clear conservative record, and that she shouldn’t worry about the Senate being the kiss of death for Presidential aspirants. After all, Barry did it.
Frankly, I don’t think it matters what Palin does for the next two years. She can take the lay of the land, irrespective of whether she is Governor or Senator, see if there is support for the 2012 presidential contest (you betcha), and announce that she’s running. Socialism, bailouts, and tax increases will only lead to Carteresque malaise, and by 2012 the country will have been sufficiently reminded why they only allowed the Dems to control the White House and Congress for 2 out of the last 28 years. And standing there in November of 2012 will be a strong, likable conservative who will turn all that around, just like in 1980.
