On Palin, Levin and Kristol Have it Right

Everybody’s got an opinion on Sarah Palin’s resignation and The Anchoress wins the prize for collecting them all. But barring some reason that she literally cannot physically run for president, she’s running. Behold Mark Levin’s entire piece at The Corner.

Palin is running for president, get used to it.

The reason is pretty simple. Sarah Palin loves America. And she knows we are a hair’s breadth from losing much of what we and millions of our countrymen have painstakingly built with sweat and blood over more than two centuries. She knows that Cap and Trade is not just another piece of legislation. It is a hollowpoint bullet aimed straight at the heart of the American economy. She knows that health care reform is designed to, and will, utterly devastate the quality and availability of health care that is currently the best the world has ever known. She knows that American presidents don’t nationalize automakers. Third-world dictators do that.

Sarah Palin has five children. She doesn’t want to subject them to a future of soft tyranny and poverty.

But unlike nearly every other American, Sarah Palin can do something about it. Conservatives know she is the real thing. And so do Liberals. How else to explain the daily, spittle-flecked rage spewed at her and her family? Is there anything about Sarah Palin that is vile, repugnant, or amoral? There is one thing and only one thing driving the Left’s hatred of Sarah Palin: fear. It is the fear that she is the next Reagan, who was viciously attacked in the same way. It is the fear that she will, through her classic American values and sensibility (think Truman), sweep all the rubes in flyover country into a tidal wave of support and decimate Liberal power.

Palin is not your standard politician. She is not Mitt Romney, John McCain, or Mike Huckabee. To judge her by the standard playbook is a fool’s errand. There is no playbook for people like Sarah Palin, just like there was no playbook for Barack Obama. So when you hear folks speculating that her career is over for whatever reason, e.g., she will be seen as a less-than-one-term governor or she doesn’t have enough experience, remember that our side (and the Clintons) said that about our current president. Sarah Palin is the rare politician who can play by her own rules.

Bill Kristol agrees.

If Palin wants to run in 2012, why not do exactly what she announced today? It’s an enormous gamble – but it could be a shrewd one.

After all, she’s freeing herself from the duties of the governorship. Now she can do her book, give speeches, travel the country and the world, campaign for others, meet people, get more educated on the issues – and without being criticized for neglecting her duties in Alaska. I suppose she’ll take a hit for leaving the governorship early – but how much of one? She’s probably accomplished most of what she was going to get done as governor, and is leaving a sympatico lieutenant governor in charge.

And haven’t conservatives been lamenting the lack of a national leader? Well, now she’ll try to be that. She may not succeed. Everything rests on her talents, and on her performance. She’ll be under intense and hostile scrutiny, and she’ll have to perform well.

All in all, it’s going to be a high-wire act. The odds are against her pulling it off. But I wouldn’t bet against it.

Levin and Kristol are right, Sarah Palin is here to stay. Get used to it.

Palin is a quitter. Period. She couldnt even finish a single term a Governor. I was a Palin supporter until July3. You seriously think the American voters will support her with the albatross of quitter hung around her neck?

You’re entitled to your view, Emo. I see it differently. I see someone holding herself accountable for the needs of the country versus the needs of her job within the state, someone that looks to her personal needs versus public draws – I see someone willing to make the tough decision, take the tough path based upon what she thinks is the right thing to do.

Your opinion is the common one, and I don’t mean that aggressively. I just see it differently.

The answer to the last question is yes. Because people will need the polar opposite of Barack Obama by the time 2012 gets here, and she is it. I would remind you that Obama served two years in the Senate when he decided to run for president. He had no experience doing anything, he beat Hillary Clinton who was, as you recall “inevitable,” and he won the general election beating a genuine American hero. Never say never. Palin is a very different politician and, as the American people are learning, so is Barack Obama. They will want a strong antidote for our current affliction.

Remember that Hillary had no experience at governing, her health care a disaster, her marriage a sham – yet the liberals fawned over her. Then there’s Obama who had

    NO governing experience
    NO business experience
    NO economic experience
    NO military experience
NO foreign policy or trade experience

And Palin has experience in all of those areas. By the end the term of the most liberal politician to ever hold the presidency, independents will be throwing rose petals in front of the Republican candidate. Double digit unemployment and inflation will jut be too much to bear.

We the people ain’t see nothing yet. The Governor of Alaska could have pick any day of the week to make this announcement be she choose the day before the 4th for a reason. While the media is busy reporting about the king of pop who by the way is still dead! Sarah is not going home to bake chocolate chip cookies. It’s a brave new world where fresh is best and truth is stranger than fiction. This is one gusty lady who isn’t going to play political basketball standing on the sidelines!

Why does everybody assume that she will run as a Republican? She’d never get the nomination with all the squishy RINOs…. She is just running for the office, not trying to win a majority of government. She would be pitted against a Marxist and some bland, battered dem wannabe…

Face it people…she’s toast, and totally unqualified to run for president in 2012. It wasn’t the big bad media that made her look like a fool during those interviews…it was the dumb, incoherent, and rambling answers that she gave. Her lack of knowledge about national politics and policies was horrifying! I know you all love Sarah, but be honest with yourselves…there are many more top Republicans that are much more qualified to be the Republican candidate for POTUS in 2012. Sarah doesn’t stand a chance. If she were so immensely popular, then why did she and McCain lose the election? Just the mere presence of her on the McCain ticket made long time conservatives turn their backs on the Republican party and vote Democrat. What does that tell you? She is a disaster and has a lot to learn. It makes me laugh when I hear right wingers say that the media and liberals are afraid of Sarah Palin. You’re kidding, right? They are not afraid of her…they are just in awe of how McCain could have chosen someone so unqualified, unprepared, and unknowlegeable to run on his ticket. Take notice that since the election, McCain hasn’t said one word to defend Sarah Palin. The fascination is the spectacle that she makes of herself everytime she speaks. It’s very entertaining!

I agree, it was a shrewd political move and a brilliant one. She will no longer have to waste time with frivolous complaints intended to keep her in Alaska and out of the lower 48.

She can write her book, visit every state, build her base and reach independent/moderate voters with her message.

Energy Independence = Jobs = economic recovery + strong national security

100% backing Palin, and that means pushing back against the liberal media and their personal attacks, like the HuffPo piece yesterday.

If the GOP goes with Mittens, they can count me out.

quasi-Truth: it fascinates me watching leftists try to tell me how conservatives feel about Mrs Palin. The fact of the matter is that all the indicators had Obama walking away with a landslide. Instead, the vote was far closer than it ever should have been. If not for the outrageous voter fraud purpetrated by Acorn, Obama might have lost. Against an unpopular old man, who was only putting a half-hearted effort into the campaign. No, The only reason Sarah Palin was not forgotten by Nov. 5th, is because conservatives love her and liberals like you are scared.

Your derision of Palin is pretty typical of the standard pre-packaged drivel. Are these coming in a text file or are you actually having to retype from thermal paper?

Face it! McCain deserved to loose. It was HIS campaign for president and he could not win against a sub junior senator with a bumbling idiot as a running mate? McCain is a tired old warhorse that needs to be put out to pasture. Palin was the draw on that ticket but she wasn’t running for president. McCain was. He lost. Period. And you are blaming Palin?

Yes, she was probably brought in for a little bit of novelty and polish on a what was otherwise a turd of campaign. She was thrust into a position for which was ill prepared and then cast adrift.

But she surprised some people and scared the crap out of others. She was a rising bright star on the conservative horizon. Her populism ignited a segment not previously heard from. She was a threat to the establishment! She could draw crowd. She could raise money. She could ignite passions. But they squandered her. Where is the brain trust of the party? You know, those are charged with leading and growing the party? They have maligned her. McCains token and meager defense of Palin woman? Speaks volumes about McCains character.

And McCain? Tired. Old Warhorse. Actions have consequences, Senator. And they blame Palin? Who takes the blame for the selection of McCain? RNC? Actions have consequences. We are coming to grips with the consequences each and every day.

I wish the woman and her family well. God Speed on wherever life takes you, Sarah. I wouldn’t blame you one bit -nor think it unladylike- if you raised a middle finger to the republican party leadership. Because that is just what I am doing.

I’m a blue dog Democrat and I’ll donate and vote for Sarah Palin..
Forget the spin from the lost leftist progressives (dopers). It’s all BS which the resident first lady gives to her minions to pollute the blogoshere with. In God We Trust. Not the Obama’s in residence.
Incidently, Sarah is a great speaker. She doesn’t use notes or a teleprompter so expect the Marixt progressives to spin a lie on that because their ‘chosen one’ is a blithering idiot. They
are trying to twist this truth into another lie that she can’t speak right. She is by far a great speaker and she doesn’t say um.uh……um uh……She is eloquent. Any other thing said about her speaking abilites being less than stellar is pure BS. Say it enough times so it becomes truth? Naw, people are no longer going to fall for this redundant lying bull.
We are fed up and we are not going to take this anymore. Mrs Obama needs to get a ife instead of getting a hit list on anyone who can beat her and her husband even with the ACORN vote theft.
Sarah Palin has accomplished more in her short term as Gov than the obullshetter has or will in his lifetime. AND she already filed papers last November as a candidate to run for president. DOH! Some quitter huh? Stupid obots.
