Obama may send troops to the Mexican border

It’s about bloody time. President Obama is considering mobilizing National Guard troops to contain the escalating drug violence spilling over the U.S.-Mexico border. Mexico is in complete disarry; the drug cartels are running rampant and President Felipe Calderon appears powerless to stop the carnage ravaging his country. The U.S. State Department has advised against travel to Mexico due to the ongoing threat of violence there.
The devil is in the details of course, and it worries me that Mr. Obama will issue rules of engagement which will effectively tie the hands of the troops sent to protect our sovereignty. The Justice Department is putting the screws to Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio for having the audacity to question persons of hispanic origin in his quest to root out illegal alien criminals. The area around Phoenix, AZ is now second only to Mexico City in the number of kidnappings perpetrated by Mexican nationals involved in the drug trade. Someone should pin a medal on Sheriff Arpaio and recruit more law enforcement officers just like him.
The only right way to secure the border is to actually enforce complete border security. People with legitimate business or personal reasons for travel to and from Mexico can and should cross at the official border checkpoints. There certainly are plenty of them. There is absolutely no valid reason to sneak across the border. None.
It is now time to send a clear message to the drug smugglers and illegal aliens skulking around in the dark of night. The troops we put on the border should have one primary directive. Shoot to kill. That is the only proper response to an armed foreign invasion.
