Obama: LBJ v2.0

When the boss is a child, you get childish policies. Krauthammer took Hillary to task the other day.  Kerry took it in the shorts today by accepting a letter from Hamas that he didn’t know was from Hamas. It took one of W’s advisors to tell him not to be a mailboy.  "Oh, um, I didn’t know it was from Hamas!"

Now comes Gates, who should know better. He had his time with the adults before entering Obama Elementary School (P.S. #44).

Instead of saying that we will win militarily in Afghanistan, he is looking for a way out. “Oh, we could do, um, a peace deal, you know? I mean, um, Pakistan just did”:

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Friday that Washington could accept a political agreement between the Afghan government and the Taliban if the insurgents will lay down their arms and accept the government’s terms.

“If” they will lay down their arms? Well, Bobby, they did not lay down their arms in Pakistan, and have no intention to, unless they get what amounts to complete autonomy. That means giving them their own sovereign territory.

Is that a peace deal? Sounds like they won. Sounds like the war has been fought, the local variety of the 38th parallel drawn, and a DMZ declared. THAT is you measure of victory in Afghanistan? THAT is what Obama sees as the fruit of 17,000 more soldiers in harm’s way?

Obama is not Carter v2.0; he’s LBJ v2.0. Better get the helicopters fueled up – there’s an evacuation to effect.

So let’s play along with the Pakistan comparison. Will the Taliban lay down their arms? Yes, provided:

Taliban forces in Pakistan’s restive valley of Swat, in talks Friday with a cleric who signed a peace deal with the government earlier this week, refused to disarm until Islamic sharia is completely enforced in the region, a Taliban spokesman said.

You get that? The dude that signed the peace treaty NOW has conditions. I know, I know, Obama is a better talker. He’ll convince the other set of Taliban not to do what this set of Taliban are doing. Would someone ring the recess bell, please?

Let’s take a look at sharia law. American Thinker has a great piece, complete with Qur’an cites and examples. Here’s their top ten reasons why sharia law is not quite our cup of tea:

  • Islam commands that drinkers and gamblers should be whipped.
  • Islam allows husbands to hit their wives even if the husbands merely fear highhandedness in their wives.
  • Islam allows an injured plaintiff to exact legal revenge—physical eye for physical eye.
  • Islam commands that a male and female thief must have a hand cut off.
  • Islam commands that highway robbers should be crucified or mutilated.
  • Islam commands that homosexuals must be executed.
  • Islam orders unmarried fornicators to be whipped and adulterers to be stoned to death.
  • Islam orders death for Muslim and possible death for non—Muslim critics of Muhammad and the Quran and even sharia itself.
  • Islam orders apostates to be killed.
  • Islam commands offensive and aggressive and unjust jihad.

Explain that under the guise of freedom, President Obama.  Remember the surge you said would never work, but did?  W achieved victory in Iraq.  Your turn to do the same in Afghanistan, or explain to the residents of the Taliban territory why their lives deserve less freedom than the lives of those in the areas President Bush secured.

Trust me on this, President Obama:  North Korea, Syria, Iran, and Russia are watching very closely.  Sadly, so are the oppressed people in other countries, of which Poland – through your dalliance with Russia and the missile shield – feel they may be joining soon.
