Obama canned W’s EO blocking most embryonic stem-cell research, but forgot to fund the research
To the great fanfare of his base, on March 9, 2009, Obama signed Executive Order 13505 – Removing Barriers to Responsible Scientific Research Involving Human Stem Cells.
Here’s the heart of the EO (pointing the finger, as we have learned he loves to do, at W – without mention that Clinton refused to fund stem-cell research with even a dime):
For the past 8 years, the authority of the Department of Health and Human Services, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), to fund and conduct human embryonic stem cell research has been limited by Presidential actions. The purpose of this order is to remove these limitations on scientific inquiry, to expand NIH support for the exploration of human stem cell research, and in so doing to enhance the contribution of America’s scientists to important new discoveries and new therapies for the benefit of humankind.
So we’re off and running! Oh, wait. Alas, it seems he never funded it:
In 2001, President Bush imposed federal funding restrictions limiting the use of human embryonic stem cells. On March 9, 2009, President Obama signed Executive Order 13505 overturning the restriction in the previous policy. This important step allowed for a greater number of cell lines derived from IVF embryos to be qualified for use in federally funded research. While this change in policy benefits the advancement of scientific knowledge, the executive order does not address funding for promising research on cell lines derived from sources other than IVF embryos.
They capstone the issue here:
“In light of the need for scientists to be able to generate disease-specific stem cells for research, the President’s executive order alone is insufficient as it does not take full advantage of the technology at our fingertips,” said Vigersky. “For the full potential of stem cell research to be reached, the amount of federal funding and the scope of that funding need to be expanded.”
Obama is, in the street vernacular, a useful idiot. Does he actually do anything?

Right now every scientist that works on stem cells can apply for a grant form the NIH and is not restricted from doing so like before. There is no reason why anyone working on whatever problem should have separate funds just for them. It doesn’t make any sense. Just because they complain about it?
I’d suggest that you don’t write about things of which you have no understending. It is very low class to call someone an idiot since it is clear that you have no idea what you are talking about.
I report, you decide. Sounds like you have an issue with the group complaining, not me.
