From Commentary Magazine.

Passing by the Doris C. Freedman Plaza today, I spotted this sculpture, “El Che” (pictured below in another city), by the German artist Christian Jankowski.

The base of the sculpture is inscribed with a Che quote that my ignorance of Spanish prohibited me from deciphering. But I’m pretty sure it wasn’t an apology for committing acts of terror and helping to derail a country for nearly half a century.

And from the splitting-hairs department, we are told that the sculptor intended the figure to represent a guy who dresses up like Guevara, not Guevara himself.

And this sculptor knew a guy who looked like George Washington and made this statue of the look-alike, which sits in Union Square in New York.

And these 4 guys aren’t actually presidents, but the resemblances to the real guys were so remarkable, we carved them into the side of a mountain.

The statue of Che Guevara should be removed. The childish lie that the statue depicts somebody else is an insult to our intelligence. Communist Cuban thug killers deserve no public acknowledgment other than to serve as a reminder of the depths of human depravity.

How would a Hitler look-alike appeal to New Yorkers ? Americans? People of conscience?

Is this Ignorance of Che’s murderous and vicious acts against innocent people, destructive and immoral individual that embraced a political cause to unleash his evil and inhuman nature.

    This is a disgrace

  2. Bill Dupray

Aw, come on Alicia, Che was a Freedom Fighter. You didn’t know that?

  3. pedro cabrera

So you said that he was a freedom fighter,ja,ja,ja.Is amazing your level of ignorance of what comunism is, for your info, Che Guevara was a cold blood killer a real mao/stalin”s student, who never was a freedom fighter, he was a totalitarian , a comunist and for your info in the comunism simply the freedom does not exist.
    Pedro.

Pedro, sometimes sarcasm is lost in print. I was kidding about the freedom fighter thing. The liberals love the guy and that is how they would have responded to Alicia’s comment.

I wrote the post and here is a quote (with no sarcasm): “The statue of Che Guevara should be removed. The childish lie that the statue depicts somebody else is an insult to our intelligence. Communist Cuban thug killers deserve no public acknowledgment other than to serve as a reminder of the depths of human depravity.”

We are as anti-Commie on this site as you can get. Take a look around and you will see.

I think you and I are on the same page.

WE ARE IN THE SAME SIDE OF THE RIVER, SORRY MY INDIGNATION FOR THE STATUE MADE ME REACT LIKE THAT, A BIG HUG FOR YOU AND I APOLOGIZE FOR THE MISUNDERSTANDING .GOD BLESS AMERICA!
NOTE : BILL I AM ADDING A LETTER THAT I SENT VIA E-MAIL TO MAYOR BLOOMBERG ABOUT IT.HAVE A NICE WEEK.PEDRO
Mr. Mayor I received via Internet information about a permit granted from the City of New York for an Statue of the cold blood killer Ernesto Che Guevara. Such statue would be a monument to violence and to a person who, according to his own words was feeling great with the smell of the blood of whom he killed. Another point is, Che Guevara professed a visceral hate against the USA, which he espressed in every speech or statement made by him everywhere. In Cuba, as chief of La Cabaña Fortress in Havana, for the first six months in 1959, he was in charge of the execution of several hundred Cubans murdered as enemies of the revolution without judicial protection. A blood bath that provoked then a worldwide outcry (see the Us press of those days). It would therefore be an insane act to erect an statue of the cold blood killer Che Guevara in a public place on USA territory. Finally, as an American Citizen and part of the Cuban community, I have to take this as an insult to people that respect the laws and that are proudly located in the positive side of the American Society. Mr. Mayor, for ctizens who love freedom and dignity, an statue of the killer Che Guevara is like an statue of Adolph Hitler in the middle of Manhattan. I have always respected you as a political figure and I always will I trust you as a great man of honor. In case that this authorization could be real, I ask you to please, reconsider it in the name of the victims that Cue Guevara killed in Cuba. Do not allow in NYC to erect an official monument to the violence as a tribute to a real enemy of this great nation. God Bless America !Pedro Cabrera

Good for you, Pedro! Glad to see you being involved. Thanks for reading and participating.

Alicia: I agree 100% with your comment. It is amazing to see how ignorant some people are, to have idolized a murderer, whose “heroic” feats were a total lie. He was nothing but the parasite son of a wealthy family, whose twisted ideology brought disgrace and pain to the Cuban people, whom he despised. This “hero” used to call on prisoners at La Cabaña prison and forced them naked on the esplanade after midnight, to yell Viva Fidel, helped by bayonets searing their naked bodies, as witnessed by an uncle of mine, who was also a prisoner there at the time. This Doctor in Medicine? , used to tell his junior offficers to “give Aspirine” to prisoners as a command to have them executed. Tha’s how cynical he was. It is estimated that he executed over 2,500 prisoners during his tenure at La Cabaña. The best part is that he used to invite his “guests” to witness the executions. With this said, I can only feel sorry for whomever admires this beast, because in my opinion they are probably as twisted as he was. To have a statue of this entity in New York, is a total disregard for human life, but again, what do 2500 Cuban lives matter?, what do the ones who die, trying to escape Cuba matter? After all, the sharks in the straights of Florida need to be fed, what can be better to feed them than the men, women and children who die, in their quest for Freedom, after all they seem to be “expendable”, nobody seems to care about their Human Rights. Thank you Alicia for raising your voice against this parasitic thug.

  8. DOLORES DELGADO

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHO PAYED FOR THIS STATUE IT IS INCREDIBLE TO THINK THIS TERRORIST THAT NEVER DID ANYTHING WORTHWHILE IN HIS LIFE BUT KILL PEOPLE IS IN A DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY PARK ……BY THE WAY FIDEL GOT RID OF HIM ……MAYBE WE SHOULD ALSO HAVE A STATUE OF HITLER FOR BALANCE D.DELGADO

  9. Michelle

This statue should be trashed. I can NOT believe that people are so ignorant as to the true acts of this monster, Che Guevara. Incredible that Mayor Bloomberg would even allow this to happen. There should be a petition of some sort banning this statue from existing. Wow – in this country of ours, we have nothing better to do than honor this assassin!

  10. xiomara

If a petition against this statue does not materialize, since nobody knows what political interests are behind it, granting approval from the city of New York and it”s Mayor, maybe the next best thing would be having this statue drenched in excrement every new day to remind passersby that that this is the same material he was made of and that there are people here that still respect Freedom.Although Freedom does not mean honoring a murderer. Let it not be said that this would be disrespecful to a dead person, since he was not a person, only an evil entity, who never showed any respect for anybody”s life. It”s only pay back time. As reader Delgado says maybe, there should be one for Hitler and for other famous murderers, like Stalin, Manson, why not Jack the Ripper and lastly the author of the HoloCastro, Mr Castro himself. Maybe the authorities should consider these candidates, as future subjects of glorification by the City of New York.

  11. oppiano

was che a bigger terrorist than w bush? i don’t know; let god sort it out.

  12. xiomara

Dear Oppiano: When you wrote such a smart comment, where you maybe under the influence of Opium? just to “honor” your name. If President Bush, was a terrorist as you seem to think, there would not be idiots like yourself free to make such statements and continue with their lives. In a Communist paradise, that would have been considered a “crime against the State” enough to send all of you to the slammer. Your ignorance phases me, all the Che admirers have no idea of who he really was, or what he did or did not do. As for President Bush, only time will tell, may be within a few years all his bashers and hatters, will start to compare his past errors to the following catastrophes, which may make the first ones look like great achievements. Just to enlighten you a little bit, that Revolution that you seem to admire, gained power through bombs in public places, sabotage, blackouts and the rest of terrorist techniques. As you can see Terrorism, pays well, it creates dictators that last 50 + years, Mr Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, was only a piece of that puzzle, that brought disgrace to what used to be a properous country and continues to do so wherever his infamous shadow and doctrine reaches. Count your blessings Mr Oppiano, I hope you never have to experience what “Terrorism” really is.

  13. Xiomara

Oppiano: I forgot one thing, one day God will judge Mr Bush, as he will judge all of us, but you know something I do not think he has wasted his time on the first arrival,Che must probably still be bouncing from one place to the other, in eternity, because nobody will want him in their corner.
