Lefty blogger throws in the towel on health care

With all the angst over here on the right about Obama the Terrible crushing our jewel of a health care system under his jackboot, it is worth bearing in mind that the moonbats, who control the White House and Congress for the first time in a long time (actually since 1993, shortly after which Bill Clinton promptly pissed away his Congressional majority with the HillaryCare trainwreck), really thought they had this in the bag. Now we have guys like Matt Taibbi crying in his cornflakes about how the Dems have screwed the pooch. Some choice quotes.

Who among us did not know this would happen? It’s been clear from the start that the Democrats would make a great show of doing something real, then they would fold prematurely, ram through some piece-of-shit bill with some incremental/worthless change in it, and then in the end blame everything on Max Baucus and Bill Nelson, saying, “By golly, we tried our best!” . . .

The reason a real health-care bill is not going to get passed is simple: because nobody in Washington really wants it. There is insufficient political will to get it done. It doesn’t matter that it’s an urgent national calamity, that it is plainly obvious to anyone with an IQ over 8 that our system could not possibly be worse and needs to be fixed very soon, and that, moreover, the only people opposing a real reform bill are a pitifully small number of executives in the insurance industry who stand to lose the chance for a fifth summer house if this thing passes.

Love that “the only people opposing a real reform bill” are, wait for it . . . the insurance executives. Mr. Taibbi, doesn’t want the facts get in the way of such nonsense, so he omits polls like the one that showed that 89% of Americans are satisfied with their health care. And he forgot to mention that 53% of Americans oppose the Congressional health care reform bills. Who was it again that has the IQ of 8?

Undeterred, he plows on, foot stomping and tears streaming down his face.

It won’t get done, because that’s not the way our government works. Our government doesn’t exist to protect voters from interests, it exists to protect interests from voters. The situation we have here is an angry and desperate population that at long last has voted in a majority that it believes should be able to pass a health care bill. It expects something to be done. The task of the lawmakers on the Hill, at least as they see things, is to create the appearance of having done something. And that’s what they’re doing. Personally, I think they’re doing a lousy job even of that. I lauded Roddick [in the Wimbledon Final] for playing out the string with heart, and giving a good show. But these Democrats aren’t even pretending to give a shit, not really. I mean, they’re not even willing to give up their vacations.

It doesn’t even occur to him that that angry and desperate population are the ones who oppose the Democrats. He is frozen in time on election night. But politics is dynamic and the public are often slow to realize what they have done. When they figure it out, the correction is made.

Mr. Taibbi’s little diatribe is undoubtedly being repeated at the Kool-Aid watering holes in Berkeley and Harvard, and in the morning all it will amount to is a big Hope and Change hangover.

Apparently, he hasn’t read the bill either. Could it be that foisting all sorts of governmental controls from the ability to invade one’s checking account, forcing taxpayers of conscience to pay for abortion, denying care to the “retarded,” euthanasia, rationing of healthcare, government mandates regarding one’s life choices and lifestyle, forcing small businesses already in dire financial shape to give healthcare or else, plus so many other thousands of points in the bill along with Obama lying about the titanic cost burden could be the true problem?

With lefty ideologues, name-calling and tantrums pass for discussion.

  2. “who stand to lose the chance for a fifth summer house if this thing passes.”

You mean the $20 million house owned by a Republican that Obama is staying at right now?
