First Ohio, Now Virginia – Obama Approval Dropping Like a Stone
Ohio dropped below 50% yesterday, and he’s now below 50% in the Old Dominion as well.
A new Public Policy Polling survey looking at how likely voters for this fall’s election view Barack Obama finds his approval rating at just 48%, with 46% disapproving.
A poll looking at his numbers among an even year general electorate would likely be more favorable because of the greater number of African Americans and young voters that would be represented but PPP is gauging approval ratings in the context of the Gubernatorial race.
Obama’s reviews are highly polarized with 95% of Democrats but only 9% of Republicans giving him good marks. His overall numbers are weak due to poor numbers among independents- 52% of them say they disapprove of Obama’s performance with only 38% giving him favorable ones.
Love that spin about how if it were a different year the numbers would be better for Obama because the blacks, I guess, what, can only vote in even-year elections?
The same poll on the Governor’s race shows Republican Bob McDonnell leading Democrat Creigh Deeds 49/43, and those six points, if they hold, will be due to the independents, who favor McDonnell 54/33.
The fact is that if the 2008 election were held today, knowing what people know about Obama, he would likely lose Ohio and Virginia and probably the presidency. So folks in those states will likely do the next best thing, throw out anybody with a D after their name.
