Every year, both parties take three days for separate retreats. The dems are staying this year at the Kingsmill Resort & Spa:

Kingsmill is pleased to offer our guests 425 all-new guestrooms and suites, where every inch has been redesigned and remodeled in modern comfort and elegance – right down to the goose-down comforters.

Our one, two and three-bedroom villa-style suites offer full kitchens, spacious dining and living areas, and outdoor decks. And little touches that make it your home away from home like comfortable, classic Thomasville furniture. Plus, our own exclusive blend of hops-infused soaps and shampoos.

The exterior of our rooms is equally as spectacular, most with gorgeous room views overlooking lush fairways or the beautiful James River – all tucked away in the seclusion of this premier gated resort. Condominiums are arranged in villa clusters throughout the Resort.

Are the meeting facilities befitting their station in life?

From lavish banquets for 450 people to executive board meetings for a select few, Kingsmill offers the perfect combination of contemporary facilities and impeccable service. Befitting its presence on the banks of the historic James River, Kingsmill lends an air of serenity to every meeting.

Seems so. How wonderful.

Last year’s dem retreat was billed to the taxpayers at $100,000. This year’s retreat will be billed to us as well.

When the republicans go on a retreat, the same link above tells us that their party picks up the tab. The taxpayers are billed -$0.00-.

So what’s the defense of such largess?

But Republicans allow special guests to join them: lobbyists who are part of the Congressional Institute, a nonprofit organization that arranges events for both political parties. They pay $25,000 to join the institute, which allows them to attend the first night’s dinner at the Republican retreat as well as other events throughout the year.

The article closes with a rather pathetic nailing of pubs:

But what about those ugly perceptions of lobbyists meeting privately with lawmakers in posh surroundings?

“If we were paying for spas, if we were paying for golf outings, then you might have a point,” Strand said. He said lobbyists are discouraged from talking about business on behalf of their clients during the retreat.

You want “ugly perception” to be the standard? As a taxpayer, I see the “ugly reality” of paying $100,000 for dems to bond.

  1. Let’s see, Wells Fargo might use some taxpayer money to host a sales meeting in Vegas and they’re vilified. Congressional pressure forces them to cancel the meeting.

Congress wastes taxpayer money on a retreat to hold meetings they could have easily hosted in the Capital and they’re given a pass.

There really are two sets of rules; one for the political elites and another for the rest of us.

Hey, can someone tell me why 7 of the top 10 richest people in the U.S. House of Representatives are Democrats ? And why are the top two richest Democrats in the House of Representatives from California – which is bankrupted ? I don’t think all the little guys in California are getting their money’s worth out of their reps. It’s funny how there’s so many rich Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives. I thought that was known as the “people’s house”. It doesn’t seem so if most of the top twenty richest members of the U.S. House of Representatives are Democrats. And we’re talking tens of millions of dollars in net worth here, not just a few paltry millions. Go to OpenSecrets.org if ya don’t believe me about the fact that 7 of the top 10 richest members of the U.S. House of Representatives are Democrats. I wonder why everyone thinks that Republicans are rich, when it’s just the opposite ? Can you imagine ? Most of the top twenty richest members of the U.S. House of Representatives are Democrats. I wonder where they got all of their money ? How can I get a job like that ? That’s really cool that Democrats are making so much money in this terrible economy. Maybe I should learn to be like a Democrat and I can be rich too someday…if it works good enough to make 7 of the top 10 richest members of the U.S. House of Representatives are Democrats, then it’s good enough for me.
