Democrats aren’t the only ones worried about the 2010 midterms. Conservatives have been watching RINO’s from on high and don’t like what they have seen. Cross-hairs have been brought to bear.

From CQ Politics

The passions of conservative activists could be reshaping the Republican Party and complicating some 2010 re-election campaigns. . . .

Republican pollster Whit Ayres said the “tea party movement” has given Republicans in Congress new reasons to stick to their guns as the opposition party.

“It’s helping to create an atmosphere where all the incentives for Republican members of Congress are to oppose Obama,” agreed Eric Schickler, a political scientist at the University of California at Berkeley.

Here is at least one list of Republicans who face primary challenges.

Mark Souder – Indiana
Todd Akin – Missouri
Lee Terry – Nebraska
Bob Inglis – South Carolina

Let’s not forget the 8 ‘Republicans’ who voted for Cap and Tax in the House. No word on whether any of these have been targeted for primary challenges, but it is not too late yet.

Mary Bono Mack – California
Mike Castle – Delaware
Mark Kirk – Illinois (may be Senate-bound)
Leonard Lance – New Jersey
Frank LoBiondo – New Jersey
John McHugh – New York
Dave Reichert – Washington
Chris Smith – New Jersey

One would hope that the three Jersey boys, Lance, LoBiondo, and Smith pay close attention to the prevailing wind in their state as they watch Governor Corzine go down in flames in November for supporting liberal tax schemes.

The upside of these potential challenges from the right is that many RINO’s have been properly incentivized to avoid giving aid and comfort to Nancy Pelosi.

Souder said the prospect of several possible primary rivals makes it difficult for incumbents like him to embrace bipartisan deals on high-profile issues.

“On the big issues, I don’t think you’re going to see much bipartisanship because our right wing has dug in so hard,” Souder said. “And there’s, quite frankly, panic among Democrats.”

And lest they forget, fomenting panic among Democrats is the point of this exercise.

Lee Terry is very conservative. The 2nd district in Nebr went “Blue” for Obama….that’s Omaha!

Here is how the Progressives rate him: http://progressivepatriots.com/house/TerryNE2.html

Well, CQ says he’s got a primary challenge from the right, but doesn’t give a name.

I would rather keep Lee Terry in place to have a Republican representing the 2nd district from Nebraska than see a democrat take his seat. Omaha is leaning very hard to the left politically at times. the democrats keep running their pretty boy Scott Kleeb for offices around the state. Wouldn’t put it past them to move Scott to the 2nd district to run for that seat. They really want this kid in an elected office.

  4. You’re right about Kirk running for the senate. And there’s a good conservative, Patrick Hughes, opposing him. Mike Castle might also be senate-bound, although he’s being coy. If he does go the Senate route, he’ll be running in the primaries against Christine O’Donnell, who is somewhat conservative (certainly a great deal more so than Castle–who we’ve listed as the Ace of Diamonds at removerinos.com ). Nice photo, by the way!
