The Dems held the seat for 40 years. And now it is gone. Great news.

From American Thinker.

Nevertheless Joe Booth won, taking a seat that was held by the Democratic Party for roughly 40 years in a state where the Democrats rule the House, Senate, and the Governor’s office.

What is most remarkable about the win was the margin. Joe garnered over 60% of the vote in a heavy Democrat area and trounced Adams Mervine by 30 points.

I went to a couple of the polling places and the turn out for Republicans was huge. Far be it from me to say this is a bellwether, but I would venture a guess that the current state of local and national politics is beginning to bring out the conservative wing of the Republican Party here. And if it can happen here it will likely happen elsewhere.

If ice-blue seats aren’t safe in Delaware (I guess having your former Senator as VP doesn’t carry much weight after all), it means all of those folks figuring out the ‘safe’ seats in the midterms may need to take another look. This should scare the crap out of the Blue Dogs, and will make the DNC spend tons of money in lots of places they never anticipated. When you look at the Republicans running away with the Governors’ races in New Jersey and Virginia by double digits and coat everything with Obama’s tanking poll numbers, and Rasmussen’s poll showing the Republican leading in the generic congressional ballot by 43-38, the highest spread in years, something has got to give pretty soon.

H/T Tammy Bruce on Twitter, always worth a follow for the good stuff.

What these libs don’t want to admit is, there is a God. I know, my prayers have been answered.

  2. palintologist

I bet those evil insurance companies bussed people in to vote for this guy.

  3. Bill Dupray

I sure hope so. Guess they had more buses than ACORN. I think they need a bailout.

Stunning result! Fantastic news! Why aren’t O’Reilly and Hannity talking about it tonight? Also are there any outstanding reasons — other then growing dissatisfaction with the Obama/Pelosi/Reid axis that accounts for this remarkable result?

Delaware folks can you fill in? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tomorrow at the presser Gibbs will be talking about manufactured anger at the polls!

Im sorry to say this but this election result means next to nothing…here is the full story….

The Sussex Department of Elections has confirmed that Joe Booth has unofficially won the 19th District special election with 4,335 votes. Polly Adams Mervine (2,085) came in second, followed by Matt Opaliski (408) and Wendy Jones (56). There were 10 write-in votes.
Results will become official when they are certified in two days.
As of 9:45 p.m. on Aug. 3, however, no results of any kind had been posted on the Sussex County Department of Elections’ Web site.
“Joe managed to reach the most people who were inclined to vote. It’s been a positive experience and it looks like I’ll probably be back next year,” said Libertarian candidate Wendy Jones. “I thank all the people who took a chance [on me].”

“[With Joe Booth in the Senate] it should be really interesting the effect it will have with the Democrat majority and the way the House and Senate are set up,” Jones said.
“I’m sure he’ll do the best he can,” said Democratic candidate Polly Adams Mervine. “I’m proud of the campaign we pulled together. We had a tremendous amount of people volunteer and help – I’m very grateful. This has been a wonderful opportunity and I’m excited to see where this will lead.
“Doors have been opened for me.”

State Senate win does not change the balance of power

Ok people, im all for giving Nancy, the O’ster, & company the Waterloo they rightfully deserve, but lets not grasp at straws.

Yes and no, some guy. In isolation as a balance of power thing, yes. But it seems – feels like – a protest vote. Couple it with the McDonnell and Christie in the VA and NJ gov races, and it becomes something more. Add the generic Congressional ballot now at pubs +5 and it develops more still.

I understand the what you are getting at, however, the original post does give a false impression; I’m not implying that the authors intent was to mislead his readers, but the article does lack the nessecary data that would put the election’s result in prespective…less than 5,000 votes were cast…the coming elections in NJ & VA will be the best indicators of the electorates shift…the important data points will be total turnout & margin of victory… If both are high than the bamster is in big trouble.

Oh, love your podcasts; you guys have great taste in bump music

You like the podcasts! Awesome. Thanks for that. As I was reading your comment, I was thinking of the on-going discussion Bill and I have had on those recordings concerning the gov. races.

I’m not disagreeing with your assessment of the Delaware race. It wasn’t dog catcher – it wasn’t governor. It does, however, have the feel of those Dixville Notch or early Iowa straw poll votes. It’s tea leaves.

But let me add this – I would not be shocked if CNN or some other national outlet would have played up the “democrat incumbent holds albeit through his surviving issue” mantra to illustrate that “although the democrats are having a peckish times in the national polls, in the end result all politics are local, and in this instance, the broader polls are meaningless – people like dems when they cast their vote.” With that said, I champion Bill’s post in this instance.

I ran across you link by accident. For someone very concerned about this bunch in DC, that bit of good news from Deleware was exciting to here and made me a little more hopeful.
Tennessee took back the house and senate in the last election after many years of Dem control. I live in Collierville, outside of Memphis..Good job. Here is hoping other blue states will wake up to this crazy Obama administration.

Thanks, Sandy. Hope you come back often!
