Before Global Cooling in the 1970′s, There Was Global Warming in the 1930′s
Shockingly, there seems to be a cycle of global cooling and global warming on Earth. We know there was a panic in the 1970′s that we were headed for another ice age. Back in the 1930′s, when Al Gore was just a twinkle in his daddy’s eye, it seems global warming was was of great concern. The Monthly Weather Review [PDF link here] from September 1933 had an article titled Is Our Climate Changing? A Study Of Long-Time Temperature Trends.
The author notes
The phase of weather, or climate, that is attracting attention at the present time is not these short-period changes from warm to cool, and vice versa, for they are always present, but rather an apparent longer-time change to cool periods that seem to be less frequent and of shorter duration, and warm periods that are more pronounced and persistent.
and concludes
All of these confirm the general statement that we are in the midst of a period of abnormal warmth, which has come on more less gradually for many years.
If you look at the chart you can see the upward trend in the temperature cycle ending in the 1930′s (think dustbowl) and then the “ice-age” trending back down from the 1930′s to the 1970′s. We then cycle up to today. I guess now though the world is so damaged by humans, it will never cycle back down.

But unless we are heating the oceans, these fluctuations seem to correlate nicely to the Pacfic Decadal Oscillation (PDO), combined with the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation.

I am no climatologist, but this seems to be more evidence why we shouldn’t simply ignore the past and blindly buy into the environmentalist panic du jour.
