Another Hero lost in Afghanistan

The Soldier’s name is I believe (see the link in the SondraK article to NRO for why I cannot be positive) Chris Rudzinski.

I don’t have the details yet on Chris’ death. I was told it was an IED. Chris is my oldest son, 28 years old and a father for his little boy Ryan and husband to Caroline, his wife. I have attached a picture of Chris and Ryan, who turned one year old last month while his daddy was in Afghanistan. The picture was taken on the day of his departure. This was Chris’ 4th tour in harm’s way-once to Kosovo, twice to Iraq and now Afghanistan. He is a SGT in the Military Police Corps. I’m also including a hyperlink to an article which made me very proud of my son. It won’t be hard to figure out our family name, but that’s ok-it’s time I came out of the shadows and started advocating for my son and his comrades. …
…Please keep Chris, Caroline, Ryan and my family in your prayers. We have another son, Jordan, who was inspired by his older brother’s love of country and the service to join the Army as well. He is scheduled to deploy next year….
Our prayers do go out to the family. When you find yourself getting bent out of shape at the small tragedies in your life, remember the patriots who sacrificed it all for the rest of us.

I am heart broken with the loss of Chris Rudzinski. He was a true Patriot that loved our country. I had the privildge of working with Mike Rudzinski some eight years ago. He would tell me about Chris joing the Army and his first duty station in Germany. Mike is so very proud of his son. Later on I was tranferred to Fort Hood. Mike told me Chris’s follow-on duty station was Fort Hood as well. I made sure Mike had my contact information to give to Chris once he arrived. Coincidence would hae it I was at the Killeen airport picking up a couple Soldiers for a tactical operation we were preparing for. Chris came in on the same plane. He saw me in uniform and came over to me. He looked at me and asked, “Are you SGM Johnson?” Before I could reply he also said, “Craig Johnson?” I immediately recognized him as Mike’s son. There was no doubt Chris was Mike’s son! I said to him, “You are Mike Rudzinski’s son, aren’t you.” Chris was just arriving Fort Hood and was getting ready to go over to the Staff Duty desk at the airport to arrange his transportation to the reception station on post. I told him I have room in my truck and asked if he as hungry. He said yes and we went to lunch before we left for Fort Hood. I carried him to the reception station and ensured this quite polite young man was squared away. I gave Chris my business card and told him to call or come by anytime. It wasn’t long and Chris came by my office to chat. He never asked for anything, he just wanted to chat. I became very fond of Chris, I actually looked forward to his visits. My wife and I had him over for dinner one evening and I remember how well mannered this young man was. It is definitely a testiment of his up bringing. Chris deployed to Iraq with the 4th ID and I later deployed with III Corps to Iraq. I lost contact with him, I will always remember this quite polite young man and will treasure the time I spent with him. When Mike called yesterday to tell me about Chris I dropped to my knees. Chris is gone but he will never be forgotten. He has left his mark on many people. My heart and prayers go out to Mike, Caroline, Ryan, and all his friends and family.

It is the family that will be bearing the weight of this loss for years.
Having seen my daughter go through this two years ago, it is staggering.
Each individual handles total devastation differently, and NO ONE except that person really understands what it means.
The path to recovery is a long way up a steep incline I will pray for the family.

Dear Sir, (Michael Rudzinski)
I am so heartbroken at your loss. My daughter, Spc. Ashley M. Dean – 293rd MP Company – worked for your son – and was with him last Friday during the incident in Kandahar. She told me so much about “Sgt Ski” and was proud to serve with him! I have leters she wrote me over the past year identifying the soldiers in her unit and Sgt. Ski was at the top of the list!
I was a basket case whenI heard their platoon encoutered difficulites and suffered casualites. I can’t image the pain and heartbrake you, your family and Chri’s wife are having to endure. I heard that nine out of the twelve in the platoon were injured. Ashley was able to call me Sunday – and told me about the platoon seeing Chris off at the airport ert back to the states and the services they held for him. That entire platoon was proud and honored to have known and worked for your son.
I’ve printed out his and your grandson’s picture and they will be placed in positions of honor on my walls at home and at work.

SGT. Dean, thank you so much for sharing this. I will pray for your daughter and all of the soldiers in Chris’ platoon. He always talked about his “kids” and how he was worried about them. I can’t take care of them like Chris, but I will keep them in my thoughts and prayers. I am so touched that Ashley thought enough of Chris to share this with you. What a fine daughter you have.

Mr. Rudzinski, I am grieving for you and your family’s loss. My son is also an MP in the 293rd MP Company, 3rd Platoon. We have not have contact from him for many weeks, but I think he must have known your son. I wish I could talk to him to see how he is handling this loss. When we received the call stating there had been a fatality with my son’s Company, but then told my son was not involved in the incident, my heart hurt knowing that someone’s family had suffered that loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you, his wife and son, and I am so very, very sorry for this incredible loss. Kelly Easton
